There was this young farm lad in Iowa

Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 08:33 AM GMT [General]

The young farm lad was gathering eggs.  One of the hens said, "Young lad, kiss me on the head, and I will turn into a beautiful princess, marry you, and give you half my kingdom."  The farm lad scratched his head, thought on it, and responded, "That is a very nice offer, but we do need the eggs."

Why does Germany right about now remind me of the farm lad?

I actually watched most of ECW tonight

Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 03:31 AM EST [General]

Yeah I know I said ECW is dead to me and it is, but just because it's dead doesn't mean I won't still look at it. Truth be told I only was watching cause I didn't feel like watching the entire Bob Saget roast replay and the Yankees game was all ready over.

It's a good thing ECW is moving to 9PM because once the fall season starts, 10 PM is required viewing time for me of Law & Order SVU. There's also The Sheild but FX wisely replays that. But just because its on at 9 PM is no guarentee I'll actually watch it because most of these shows are hit and miss (much like the Mets bullpen).

I only really wanted to see Hardy vs. Henry because after the abortion at Summerslam they owed us a match and it was pretty good for the most part. I mean Mark Henry can only do so much before he starts sucking wind. The crowd was down right nuclear for Matt Hardy tonight so that was great to see. It's clear to see why ECW's ratings are up a staggering 50% with Matt on the show.

But it annoyed the hell out of me that once again Mark Henry survived another week as champion. I mean we all know why he became champion, but that token reign should have passed a while ago. I know ECW has a minimal roster, but I don't know how much longer they can possibly draw this out. Obviously Matt has to get his one more title shot and logic dictates he would win it then. I guess they have to throw something on the next PPV as if it isn't a train wreck all ready.

On a side note Ricky Ortiz as the clueless idiot who thinks he's hot **** is a great gimmick. I applaude that section that had the rally towels. More people need to bring those to shows.

And the debut of Shawn Spears...excuse me Gavin Spears. Lord knows we the lowly fan would get confused easily if there were two wrestlers with the same first name.

"His name is Shawn, but he's not HBK...". It was a good promo by Gavin though. I loved the "But I have talent" line.

If you want to understand why ECW is the way it is and alot of the WWE for that matter and why we simple wrestling fans will never see a show with more wrestling then entertainment, watch this clip of a shoot interview with Steve Corino and Terry Funk.

I might be a lowly Internet columnist, but even if I had a promotion I would entrust my television to guys like them over someone who just had a good degree any day of the week.

"Are you looking for answers to questions under the stars" -R.I.P LeRoi Moore

Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 12:25 AM PST [General]

LeRoi Moore, the saxophonist for the Dave Matthews Band, has died at the age of 46.  Moore was seriously injured in an ATV accident in Virginia on June 30th.  The musician suffered a punctured lung and broken ribs but was released, only to go back to a hospital last month due to complications.  LeRoi died unexpectedly this afternoon because of those complications at the Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center.  Moore, who lives in L-A, was home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program.  It turns out that the Dave Matthews Band is also in Los Angeles today and according to TMZ.com, the group's show tonight at the Staples Center will go on as scheduled.

And now... In Tribute:  My favorite DMB song, "Where Are You Going (Live)"... such a powerful song with beautiful meaning.

    The "F" Word

Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 08:19 AM GMT [General]

This is purely a personal observation and not a judgement.

Waking up too early this morning, I decided to stay in bed and watch the BBC Breakfast News.  Not having been following the Olympics, I didn't realise it was the Breakfast Olympics instead of the usual news programme.

I caught the tail end of the live coverage of the women's wind surfing event ... Team GB's Bryony Shaw was in a Bronze medal position and it was quite exciting to watch.  She managed to hang on to her position and understandably, she was elated and very emotional.

The BBC reporter was there waiting to interview her immediately and it proceeded with Bryony Shaw bawling her eyes out.  All well and good.  Then it came ... "I'm f***ing happy ... " or a sentence to that effect but there was no mistaking the "f" word and the reporter apologised to the viewers with an excuse that it was just a slip of the tongue in the excitement.

It certainly did *not* offend me or even shock me.  What  struck me was how easily this "f" word slides off young women's tongues ... it would seem that whatever programme you watch on TV where young women are interviewed, etc, the number of ‘bleeps' you hear in every sentence is staggering.

As far as I'm concerned, there is a time and place for uttering the "f" word but using it in every sentence in everyday conversation is not it, either for males or females.

    What do you think?

    A Poison Tree

Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 03:16 AM EST [General]

    A Poison Tree

l was angry with my friend:
l told my wrath, my wrath did end.
l was angry with my foe:
l told it not, my wrath did grow.

And l water'd it in fears,
    Night and morning with my tears;
And l sunned it with smiles,
    And with soft deceitful wiles.

And it grew both day and night,
    Till it bore an apple bright;
and my foe beheld it shine,
And he knew that it was mine,

    And into my garden stole
    When the night had veil'd the pole;
In the morning glad l see
My foe outstrech'd beneath the tree

    Bloke's Corner

Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 08:10 AM GMT [General]

"Women who want equality lack ambition".  Know who wrote that?  Yup, it was that  feisty lass on MyT who calls herself Maggie.  Is it just me, fellas, or does she sometimes put you in mind of that namesake of hers, just starting to get into her stride as Education Secretary?  Who'd have thought she'd later be humiliating the Argies?  Baroness Belgrano !

So while we tremble on this site, blokes, wondering where this new Maggie is leading us, let's try to think up a suitable blokeish riposte to the lady's motto.  Here's one for starters:

"I don't give a toss who wears the trousers. If SWMBO spends less on the depilatory creams, there's more for the fags and beer!"

DETRAS DE UN NICK HAY UN SER HUMANO

Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 03:06 AM EST [General]

Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 12:02 AM PST [General]

Tonight Andrew and I are having dinner at IL Cielo. We wanted a little break from the computer but, still have our destination in mind. The photos look so dreamy! I'll take pictures tonight and describe the night in detail. Until then, Shayla

2:19 AM ....Just had the most amazing night of my life! IL Cielo is a little Beverly Hills hot spot with an awesome staff, warm atmosphere, and a touch of love. Andrew and I took a moment to look at each scenic room and vibe off the romance in the restaurant. We sat in the outdoor patio...under the heat lamp, and lit trees. We were served fresh brushetta on our candle lit table. Nice and close, listening to the subtle music, I had everything I needed. I was treated with such gentle care, and the had complete attention on me. The early evening reservation and pace of a Monday night allowed for a private patio and romantic dinner. The restuarant was completely ours. Upon completing our delicious meal, I looked over the desert menu, while Andrew was in the bathroom. We had taken his camera with us to shoot video of IL Cielo so I wasn't surprised when Andrew left the camera on his side. I sat in an empty courtyard with the thought of the dream wedding on my mind.  Although I was confident in my momentary aloneness, I was anticipating Andrew's return. With sincere and loving motions he pulled me out of my seat and held my waist. He told me how much he loved me and how I mean everything to him. My emotions flooded me, as Andrew teared up. He got down on one knee and asked, "Will you marry me?" My response- "Of course!" My wedding ring is the perfect fit and more amazing than ever. I cried, and laughed, and cried, and went to my go to move...be an close to Andrew and let him hold me. All the things I have thought about Andrew have been magnified. I'm so in love with this man and will continue telling the rest of the engagement story shortly.

10:27 AM ...When we were driving home, Andrew and I picked up a couple pies and thought my parents would be at home to have hot tea, and celebrate with us. I wanted to tell my mom..I'm engaged! I wanted to tell my dad, that Andrew is officiallly the guy that will take over the part of providing for me one day. Ashley was in town because earlier in the day we went to get our nails done. Apparently this was pre-arranged between Ashley and Andrew. My manicure complimented my beautiful new ring. We came home to house full of family and friends. The people I love the most in the world were there with support. The girls I want to accompany me on my wedding day brought wine, bridal magizines, and big smiles. I was shocked that Andrew secretly invited my friends Shannon, Lauren, Martha, Marcy, Jessica, Ali, and Ashley. I received more than the girlfriend welcome, but absolute acceptance from Andrews friends Adam, Max, Marco, and Dave. I was overwhelmed with the love in the room. I spent my time mingling and laughing but every so often I'd glance over at my fiance and loose my breath again. I'd catch a little wink or feel him look at me. Once again Andrew made me feel like I was the only girl in the world. Now that we had the perfect engagement, we truly can't wait for the perfect wedding! Check out the video.

    The Small Things

Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 07:59 AM GMT [General]

It was one of those moments where everything became a little clearer. I'm into reflecting on the present and not the past or future. Being human, it is impossible to do so. But as a did my nightly run, I wrote in my mind what I relay below. It is altered a bit. My memory is not perfect, but it is very close to what I thought during those moments. It is a reflection on the present. Now, if I wrote: I believe in enlightenment and through my experience I hope to enlighten you. Be free., you'd probably think: Seriously, I've already been enlightened... or Puh-leeze, you are wasting my time.

I bend over tying my shoes in the dusk. I walk out under a street light that illuminates the rain falling on my hair. I pull up my hood to shield it from the elements. My feet hit the pavement in repetition. I pound out my fears, running for my freedom, as the rain hits my face. Hard rock blares in my ears. My attention is on the wet pavement. But then my eyes draw to the east. Pink clouds drift up. I pause my music. And I wonder if my freedom is in the small things. The small things like the thunder rolling in the distant, the lightning cracking down from the clouds, the smell of the wet grass, the feel of the wet concrete. I pause my movement. I feel the rain soaking through my sweatshirt and blending into my bare shoulders. I start again to shake off the cold. I move myself a little faster, feeling my leg muscles work in harmony. I’ll make it to the end. Now I'm home, opening the door to a dark, empty house. The windows are open, letting the wind blow in and lightly finger my face. I stand still and let myself rest in the moment. It is peaceful. It is gone soon, and I start my nightly habits.
